New nonstop Rockford, Illinois → Guanacaste flight announced for 2027
Travelers from the American Midwest will have another way to reach Costa Rica next winter.
A new seasonal connection between Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) and Guanacaste Airport (LIR) has been announced for early 2027.
The service is scheduled to operate once per week from February 5 through April 2, 2027, with flights operated using a Boeing 737-800NG.
The new connection is another sign of Guanacaste's continued growth as a destination for North American travelers.
Why this matters for travelers
More direct flights mean travelers can increasingly reach Guanacaste without connecting through San José or another major airport.
For visitors staying at resorts around Papagayo, Playas del Coco, Playa Hermosa, RIU, Tamarindo or northern Guanacaste, Guanacaste Airport is generally the most convenient arrival point.
One detail is still worth planning before flying: your transportation after landing.
Unlike large cities with extensive public transit networks, many Guanacaste hotels and coastal destinations are spread across the province. Prearranging airport transportation can save time after a long travel day.
